Limescale, being the most frequent and therefore probably the greatest problem for heating system and heater elements, acts as insulator. The experience shows us that crystallization takes place faster in warm water. The important information is that such crystallization rapidly increases in case of temperature of 57 °C and over. In case of deposits with thickness of 3 mm, up to 20% more energy is required to achieve the desired temperature. In case of 6 mm deposit, the increase is 30-35% more energy. The data is not absolutely precise since there is great influence of environment to the results, and such environment can be very different.

However, there is an indisputable benefit of physical water conditioning and its cleaning ability – dissolution and washing of old deposits, leaving out the necessary system shutdowns for cleaning. It also protects and prolongs operating life of pipelines, heater elements and all related devices and equipment.

The basis of physical water treatment is a “transfer” or deposit of loose electric charge to individual water molecules, causing polarization (uniform orientation). Such effect causes modification of shape of soluble solid compounds in water in such way that they fail to create any crystalline grid due to various shape and size, i.e. there is no limescale build-up. They change their structure from cubic to hexagonal. In case of collision, there is just a soft sludge. Physical conditioning prevents build-up of new limescale sediments and it works very efficiently on removal of built-up layers of sediments and preventing corrosion of internal pipeline surfaces. The reason being is formation of a protecting layer of magnetite (Fe3O4).
